Flashback: The Big Idea

Remember "Thieves World"? It was a game supplement (a superbly detailed city) by Chaosium, based on a line of fiction anthologies set in that city, written by multiple authors and curated/edited by Robert Asprin.

I am thinking of putting together a team of writers/designers to create a future city supplement along those lines (working title: "Ubiquicity"). I was going to do it myself but the future is hard to predict in toto, and I think this can be a much better product if it's multi-valent.

UbiquiCity contains a number of different urban environments; the society is highly stratified, and this shows in everything from automated systems to architecture as you move from District to District. Team Ubi used a number of Pinterest Boards during the planning and writing stages.

Enter the Fractopian Future

In UbiquiCity, the world is augmented and identity is fluid. Satellite-guided cars drive themselves. Busy drones fill the skies. Cloud-assisted bots perform once-human jobs. Home appliances, vehicles, buildings, media devices, products, streetlights, roadsigns and even toilets communicate electronically, all under the watchful eye of the AI "CitySystem".

For the inhabitants of the UbiComp zones, life is sweet. But not everyone in the city is so blessed.
